About Michael Safran
Welcome to Safflowers, a unique on-line floral boutique and studio, and a dream that has taken years to cultivate.
I have fond memories of growing up with drawing, sketching with pen and ink, painting with watercolors, and writing, activities that I’ve always found to be calming and rejuvenating. It’s no surprise that creating flower arrangements became a natural extension of these childhood pursuits.
Creating floral design is art with living materials.
Endeavoring imaginatively in this living medium embraces the discovery of how one flower plays alongside another…
The excitement of finding movement within the arrangement itself…
The importance of floral groupings…a specific balance…the overall shape, mass, and depth of floral arrangement that is exhilarating and breathtaking!
Safflowers as a company evolved from this innate desire to create.
My creativity has been nurtured through Phipps Conservatory Floral Design Program certification, as well as Ikebana study under Reiko Nakajima’s guidance, part of Phipps Garden Center’s Sogetsu Study Group. While working at Hepatica in Pittsburgh, I learned operation of a first-rate floral shop. I continue to study with Masters of Floral Design as opportunities allow, as continuous education and growth is so vital in business development.
I have always found that my most rewarding times were spent working creatively with others and watching the fruits of our labor evolve. After all, this connection to our memories and personal relationships is what offers us happiness and contentment.
I look forward to partnering with you soon on your next artistic event!
Peace,
Michael Anthony Safran
